General:
The EBelaire has proven itself of immense value as a teaching tool for both individuals and on the band practice floor. The bullets below only scratch the surface of this new Tool's capability and Utility. New uses appear every day as I attempt to teach one skill at a time to my students and bandmates.
The EBelaire is a new and important Tool. Never before has there been a device that provides this much utility and promise for making this amazing instrument accessible and its nuances understandable.
Instrument Calibration
- Chanter Reed - Adjustable pressure allows students to hear the 'sweet spot' and provide a specific pressure goal to maintain.
- Drone Reed - steady pressure on reeds allows bridle adjustment to assure minimal air and consistent tone.
- Tuning - Steady pressure allows instrument to be used, without chanter, to help students learn the principles of tuning drones to perfection.
Transition to Bagpipe
- EBelaire's steady pressure allows students to feel the instrument at proper inflation. Provides a concrete target for achievement while reinforcing the need to feel and hear!
Posture Assessment
- EBelaire's steady pressure allows for the teaching of proper posture and assessment of blowpipe length needed to consistently achieve this posture while blowing.
Extended Practice Time
- Students transitioning to pipes quickly 'blow out' during lessons. The EBelaire provides the means to allow students to get the extended instruction during their instruction sessions.
Full Blowing Support
- For those players who have become fully or partially disabled over time, the EBelaire provides the means to either resume playing their bagpipes or to get an assist during their performance or practice sessions.
